Meaghan & PJ are parents of two little boys and two very large dogs, essentially making them a family of six. Needless to say, they have their hands full but as a result their lives are full of activity, joy and exuberance. It was essential that their lifestyle photos be taken at their home where they have a little farm in St-Justine-de-Newton, Quebec. It allowed for more personal photos as well as ample space for the boys and dogs to run about. It didn't take long for their eldest to warm to me, and become his goofy self. Even the kitty decided to show up for a few moments, making for some adorable affectionate images.
The light was just perfect on this day, soft and overcast, threatening rain the entire way there. We were concerned we'd need to cancel, but it's always under these circumstances that the conditions end up being just right. I won't lie, it was a tough situation to try and get the dogs and boys comfortably in the photos all together, but in the end I think we still managed to capture lots of great moments. I often explain to my clients that when shooting a documentary or lifestyle session, the best stories are often told through groups of images together and not just one main portrait. This is why I always encourage photo books, so that they aren't limited in their selections and can really keep a good number of these memories without the need to showcase just one. As the photographer, I love seeing a sequence of events captured all in a row that speak of the moment they were photographed.
I hope these boys are able to look back on these images many years from now and have fond memories of hanging out in their yard on spring mornings with all of their animals, laying in the hammock, and sporting cozy knit sweaters from grandma.
