Meaghan & PJ are parents of two little boys and two very large dogs, essentially making them a family of six.  Needless to say, they have their hands full but as a result their lives are full of activity, joy and exuberance. It was essential that their lifestyle photos be taken at their home where they have a little farm in St-Justine-de-Newton, Quebec. It allowed for more personal photos as well as ample space for the boys and dogs to run about. It didn't take long for their eldest to warm to me, and become his goofy self. Even the kitty decided to show up for a few moments, making for some adorable affectionate images.

The light was just perfect on this day, soft and overcast, threatening rain the entire way there. We were concerned we'd need to cancel, but it's always under these circumstances that the conditions end up being just right. I won't lie, it was a tough situation to try and get the dogs and boys comfortably in the photos all together, but in the end I think we still managed to capture lots of great moments. I often explain to my clients that when shooting a documentary or lifestyle session, the best stories are often told through groups of images together and not just one main portrait. This is why I always encourage photo books, so that they aren't limited in their selections and can really keep a good number of these memories without the need to showcase just one. As the photographer, I love seeing a sequence of events captured all in a row that speak of the moment they were photographed.

I hope these boys are able to look back on these images many years from now and have fond memories of hanging out in their yard on spring mornings with all of their animals, laying in the hammock, and sporting cozy knit sweaters from grandma.

Nova Scotia Photographer, Morgan Webb

Nova Scotia Photographer, Morgan Webb

My name is Morgan Webb and I reside in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, however, I serve most of Nova Scotia. I am a wife and mother to a beautiful little 3 year old boy. I am a travel enthusiast who is originally from Toronto, Ontario, but decided at a young age I was determined to live and work near the ocean. My 'after 5' passion soon became a part time job and then my full-time passion and career when everything changed when that little blue eyed boy in that scary looking incubator looked at me for the first time. At first, I focused on family portraits with a lifestyle flair but slowly overtime, I found that my favourite images were always the documentary styled images, so I started shifting my business towards this direction and have not looking back! Now I focus on young families and their new beginnings, including documentary style newborn and fresh 48 sessions.

My name is Sandy Tam and I have been photographing people for the past 6 years. While my primary focus has always been couples who are in love, engaged and getting married, the arrival of my baby girl Blythe has inspired me to explore the love that extends beyond the husband and wife. The love that exists amongst family members - between parents and their child, between siblings, between parents-to-be and their little bump. I call this The Honest Love Project.

The In-Between by Jana O'Flaherty

The In-Between by Jana O'Flaherty

Everybody loves a smiling, sweet-smelling, squishy baby. That baby then grows into a  beautiful toddler, making ridiculous facial expressions, trying on daddy’s shoes, even the temper tantrums can make for wonderful photo opportunities. It doesn’t matter what they wear, or how their hair looks; big grins with gaps where teeth have yet to grow or sweetly sleeping children are always beautiful.

Little Oliver has a new sister, Sylvie Ana who is just 6 days new when I attended at their home located just outside of Gananoque, Ontario. Oliver is such a chatterbox and was thrilled to introduce me to his new baby sister. He even stayed home from school that morning to have his picture taken with her, however, I had to act quickly because although he wanted to hold her, he was to busy to sit still for long. After showing me his toy tractor, he said he wanted to be photographed with his sister in his parents room and wanted smarties to do it as well.

Gwylan Goddard Photography : Documentary Family Session

Hello! I'm Gwylan from Gwylan Goddard Photography, a family and wedding photographer working in Montreal, Quebec and the surrounding area. I have been photographing people for quite a while now, but in the last couple of years my focus has shifted to specializing in documentary and lifestyle family photography. I work exclusively on location in my client's homes for baby sessions, or sometimes outdoor locations with families. I am passionate about telling the real story of your life with your children, freezing a moment in time that you had with them on a particular day, immortalizing a daily ritual you might have, something that you'll be able to reflect on forever once it's been captured on camera. This is your legacy.

Hope + Salt Photography : Burlington Ontario Newborn Session

hope+salt photography

I'm Kathleen Neufeld from Hope + Salt Photography. I'm a newborn, baby, maternity and family photographer in the Burlington, Oakville and Waterdown areas. I offer both posed studio and lifestyle sessions and I truly have a love and appreciation for both. I've always been drawn to images that capture authentic moments of emotion. Ever since my first son was born in 2008 I've been determined to capture images that show real life and real emotion because I want to remember it all. I'm the mom who cries happy tears of pride on every birthday, first day of school, every milestone that makes you stop and think "wow, my baby is growing up." Taking photographs allows me to not dwell in the past because at any given time I can look back and relive the moment. It took me a really long time to gain the confidence to step out and open my business so I could preserve memories for other families in photographs as well. I'm so happy I did because every time I click the shutter and know that I've taken a photo that is not only artistically beautiful but honest and genuine it becomes even more beautiful to me and the family. Sometimes I stop and think that the images I take today will outlive me. They will be looked at by generations to come as a window to who their grandparents or great-grandparents and beyond were in that moment of time. It's a very powerful yet humbling feeling and one that I carry with me into every session.

The H family was one of those families I instantly loved the minute I stepped into their Waterdown, Ontario home. They were happy, kind and welcoming. Their son Henry was two-months old at the time of their session. Mom contacted me about a month after he was born requesting an in-home lifestyle newborn session. They had spent the last month in that glorious newborn haze many can relate to and missed the window for a posed studio session. Little Henry was more alert and smiley than a teeny newborn but as you can see it was still well worth capturing images of his babyhood. I had a blast interacting with him and gushing over this happy baby's cute grin. We used their master bedroom because it was beautiful and bright space, the living room and Henry's adorable animal-themed nursery. You can see Henry is so very loved and a lucky boy. I always try to capture at least one macro (detail) image for the parents in a lifestyle newborn session. This is a lot easier when baby is still and sleeping, but with a little patience and perseverance we were able to snap a shot of his adorable long eyelashes. Why is it that boys always get the longest lashes?! I hope the H family has more sweet babies in the future because they were so easy going and overflowing with love.

This post was to be about Autism. But that’s not what it turned out to be. It turned out to be about Noah, who just happens to have autism, and his mom. About 6 months ago my husband said to me “hey, I went to high school with this girl I think you’d like her, she writes blogs”. I thought because she blogs I’d like her?

Hi I'm Jen, a documentary style wedding & "real life" photographer based in (but not limited to) Durham Region Ontario. My primary focus is weddings but family life is near to my heart and I love having the opportunity to connect with & share real stories. I began offering day in the life sessions because I felt that traditional portraiture didn't tell the full story. I wish that I had hired someone to document my own family life when my kids were little babies - we forget about how things were so quickly!
